Savage Garden - The Future
Posted Thursday, December 14, 2000 by lssilver

For some months now, Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones have been fielding off rumours that they're splitting up. Recently, Darren Hayes posted a note on the Savage Garden website (www.savagefan.com) telling his fans not to worry.

"The 'solo' thing ... Actually this is largely due to Daniel's desire to take time off from SG [Savage Garden] and do studio work. It started ages ago with him needing a break and wanting to concentrate on tinkering around in the studio. He's started a music label and signed an act and is very involved in it. I'm sure you'll hear about it soon. I'm very proud of him. He's been writing for his band Halogen and others for a while now. I obviously don't want to take years off, so ages ago decided I would continue making music until we decided when/if there'd be a new Savage Garden album. Don't freak out! We're happy and the best of friends and actually closer than ever."

Hayes went on to draw comparisons to past groups who have maintained healthy solo careers outside of the group, such as Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks), Spice Girls (Mel C) and Eurythmics.

"After this tour we intend to do our own thang and we'll see what happens," he continues. "We'd appreciate your support and hope you don't take it as a BREAK UP ... We're going to grow for a while and see what happens. Will there be another Savage Garden album? I'd never say never but certainly not next year."

After the world-wide Affirmation tour has concluded, Jones will be relocating from Brisbane to Sydney where he will start some side recording projects. Word is, a special (Hi-5?) love interest is also influencing his move to Sydney.

Savage Garden are expected to reform in late 2001 - early 2002.
