Daniel Jones, half of the hottest duo in the world today, Savage Garden, will be on hand to present the APRA Songwriter of the Year Award for 2001. Daniel and his writing and performing partner Darren Hayes were themselves recipients of the APRA Songwriter of the Year award twice - in 1998 and 2000. Savage Garden are tipped to take out the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP)'s song of the year. The award goes to the song most played on American radio through the year 2000. "I Knew I Loved You" is hotly tipped to take out the trophy, although Savage Garden also have another track "Crash And Burn", also from their "Affirmation" album in the stakes. The ceremony takes place at LA's Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday May 22. Darren Hayes will perform an acoustic version of the winning song with producer Walter Afanasieff, who worked on the "Affirmation" album. If the track wins, it will be a first for an Australian act and the first for an Australian publisher (Roughcut Music).
