Savage Garden's Darren Hayes Says Solo Project Will Be Different
Posted Monday, September 17, 2001 by lssilver

From LAUNCH media:

Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes has wrapped up
recording on his solo album, and he recently presented
the nearly-finished product to his Columbia Records
label. Walter Afanasieff, who produced Savage Garden's
1999 album Affirmation, also produced Hayes's solo
album, while Chris Lord-Alge, who mixed Savage
Garden's 1997 self-titled debut album, will mix the
Hayes solo set later this month. Lord-Alge's mixing
credits include Hole, Fastball, Green Day, and Orgy,
among many others. Hayes's official website
(darrenhayes.com) is expected to launch shortly to
support the still-unnamed solo collection.

Hayes told us that his fans can expect a pop album,
but not necessarily one that sounds like Savage
Garden: "Two-thirds of my record is not like anything
you've ever heard Savage Garden do before. That could
be a challenge, but that's where my heart is at the
moment, so that's exciting. It's a pop record. You
know, I could write pop songs in my sleep. I don't
know if they'd always be hits, but I'm a fan of the
genre. I love melody. I love Berry Gordy's Motown
productions, and for me they are the records that I
grew up listening to: Temptations, Marvin Gaye,
Michael Jackson songs, Supremes."

Darren Hayes Among Artists To Record Charity Record
Posted Monday, September 17, 2001 by lssilver

The stars in Bono and Jermaine Dupri´s all-star remake of Marvin Gaye´s "What´s Going On" are multiplying by the day. Sean "P.Diddy" Combs, Nelly Furtado and Staind singer Aaron Lewis are among the musicians who have joined in recording the benefit single, which will be released on 1st December, World AIDS Day.

The list of artists so far includes ´NSYNC, Britney Spears, Destiny´s Child, Alicia Keys, Nelly, Gaye´s daughter Nona Gaye, Wyclef Jean, Christina Aguilera, Moby, No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani, Backstreet Boys, Lil´ Kim, Mary J.Blige, Eve, Nas, U2 bassist Adam Clayton, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe and Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes.

Marc Anthony and Maxwell will contribute by recording vocals elsewhere and sending them to Dupri, who will also host last-minute recording sessions for the single this week with Fred Durst, Jennifer Lopez and Jagged Edge. Bono is organizing the project, which he is calling Artists Against AIDS Worldwide.

The Global AIDS Alliance originally asked Bono and Wyclef Jean to record the song; however, Bono had other ideas. "I just thought, you know, we´re the usual suspects. Don´t come to us. We´re too right on," Bono said backstage at the VMAs. "Go raid the pop charts. Go ask Britney Spears. Go ask Jennifer Lopez. Go ask ´NSYNC. Go ask the rappers, the hip-hop guys like Ja Rule or Nelly or DMX. In fact, [they] made me go ask them and I did. They all agreed and we´ve got like twenty five, thirty of the most extraordinary people on this record now."

The USA Tragedy - News From Darren
Posted Friday, September 14, 2001 by lssilver

In the wake of the tradgedy that has hit the USA, Savage Garden Central would like to express sympathy to all those affected by the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

For those of you who are interested Darren is fine and has posted the following message to the BBS on darrenhayes.com and savagegarden.com:

"In this time of incredible tragedy and loss I
wish to express my obvious sympathy and
heartfelt concern for all those affected by the
terrorist attacks in the U.S.

I was in New York City this past weekend and
left on Sunday to arrive home in San Fran. I
left behind me many friends and co-workers
who are still (like thousands of others)
anxiously awaiting news of loved ones.
Please join together in prayer and in love....
use the gift of life and your spirit to send
positivity, hope and love to those in need.
In such difficult times remember how
wonderfully and beautifully the human spirit
stands strong and supports those in need.
Random acts of kindness are in great
demand and I urge you to use every second of
your day to make the world a safe, and loving
place to be.

We will never forget the courage of firefighters,
police and the average persons on the street.
We will never forget the empathy and the
kindness expressed by people here on this
site.
I love you.
Tell someone you love them.
Be strong.
Love always
Darren"

News From Darren

Just got an email from Darren about his new album.

As most of you probably already know it is all recorded and being mixed by Chris Lord-Alge (who also mixed the Savage Garden Debut).

What you won't know (as far as I know) is that he is planning to shoot the video clip to the first single sometime during October and hopes to have a single released either Late December or Early January. The album looks as if it is due around February / March 2002.

Not much else to report at the moment. I will keep you all updated with info on Darrens Single and Album as soon as I receive anything.
