Comparison Shopping, Search Segments Lead ValueClick’s Quarter

ValueClick Inc.’s revenue fell from $148.1 million in third-quarter 2008 to $130.2 million during its most recent third quarter. But its net income skyrocketed from $2 million to $25 million during the same period.

While ValueClick reduced its operating expenses in all areas – sales and marketing, general and administrative, and technology, among others – it also cut stock-based compensation by nearly $37 million.

Within ValueClick’s units:

Media revenue fell from $76.2 million a year ago to $55.9 million, while segment income dropped from $19.3 million to $11.4 million;

Comparison shopping and search revenue rose from $36.6 million to $41.5 million, while this unit’s income jumped from $7.3 million to $11.2 million;

Affiliate marketing revenue slipped from $29.3 million to $26.3 million, while income was mostly flat, at $13.1 million to last year’s $13.2 million; and

Technology revenue declined from $6.7 million to $6.6 million, while technology segment income was unchanged, at $2.8 million.
